HRD Minister’s letterheads misused for release of grants....

Letterheads of the Minister of State (MoS) for Human Resource Development, D Purandeswari, were misused and the signature of her personal assistant forged to send fraudulent missives for release of government grants, it has emerged.
Police registered a case on Monday and launched investigations after the Ministry’s Joint Secretary complained that the use of the Ministry’s official seal and entry of valid diary numbers indicated it could be an insider’s job.
According to police, the signatures of Mandala Kanakaji, first PA to the MoS, were forged on the official letterhead of the Ministry and the letter was sent to the Uttar Pradesh government for the release of monetary grants for primary schools under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan scheme.
“We have registered a case of forgery under Section 468 and 471 of the IPC. It seems like an insider was involved in the crime. We will now be examining the documents and taking the help of forensic experts to inspect the signatures,” said K K Vyas, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Economic Offences Wing).
Speaking to Newsline over the phone, Kanakaji said though he had not issued any letters, documents with his forged signatures written in Hindi were sent to UP.
