Former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda was admitted to the government-run RIMS hospital Monday after he was allegedly beaten up inside Birsa Munda jail and suffered a fracture in his right hand.
Koda has been in jail on charges of fraud, money laundering and criminal conspiracy.
“I was beaten up with a lathi. I demand a judicial probe,” said Koda in a choked voice as he was being taken inside the hospital.
Koda’s wife Geeta, MLA from Jagannathpur, said her husband had been holding a dharna since Saturday against the food served in jail. “Despite complaints, he was served rotten food. Today, he was beaten up by securitymen,” said Geeta.
However, Ranchi SSP Saket Kumar and jail superintendent D K Pradhan said there was a scuffle between inmates. “One of them, Raju Tanti, beat him up with a lathi,” he said.
